Softball Recap: Paul VI Starts off Right with Win over Saint John Paul the Great Catholic

Paul VI gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They put the hurt on the Saint John Paul the Great Catholic Wolves with a sharp 17-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Wolves: they've now won three in a row.

Giovanna Gottfried and Anisa Noorani made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Gottfried struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Noorani pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits Gottfried has allowed since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Gottfried went 1-for-4 with one triple and one RBI, while Noorani scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Ashley Robinson and McKenna Drawbaugh did most of the damage at the plate: Robinson scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Drawbaugh scored three runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits Robinson has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Monroe, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Paul VI always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .559. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Saint John Paul the Great Catholic only posted an OBP of .176.

Saint John Paul the Great Catholic dropped their record down to 0-3 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Paul VI will host Elizabeth Seton at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Saint John Paul the Great Catholic, they and Flint Hill will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
