Football Game Preview: San Mateo Bearcats vs. Capuchino Mustangs + Official Tickets

The San Mateo Bearcats will head out on the road to face off against the Capuchino Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Capuchino took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on San Mateo, who comes in off a win.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between San Mateo and Carlmont, and San Mateo kept the tradition alive. The Bearcats took down the Scots 35-21 on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Bearcats in their matchups with the Scots: they've now won five in a row.

San Mateo's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lukas Fitzgerald, who rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns. Fitzgerald's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 108 rushing yards. Tyce Copus helped out on the ground, rushing for 91 yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: San Mateo was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 374 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carlmont only rushed for 95.

San Mateo didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Copus. San Mateo got some further help from Yianni Fitzgerald: he picked up a sack and made eight total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, after soaring to 35 points the game before, Capuchino was a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They fell 14-6 to Burlingame.

San Mateo's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Capuchino, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.

San Mateo came up short against Capuchino in their previous matchup back in October of 2023, falling 42-35. Can the Bearcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
