Baseball Game Preview: Monticello Billies vs. Dumas Bobcats

Monticello is a perfect 6-0 against Dumas since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Billies are taking a road trip to take on the Bobcats at 4:30 p.m. Monticello will be strutting in after a victory while Dumas will be coming in after a loss.

Monticello will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Thursday, then bounced right back against Star City on Friday. The Billies walked away with an 11-6 win over the Bulldogs. The Billies haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Monticello got a massive performance out of Blaine Hayden, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave Hayden a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Laytn Nichols, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Dumas was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They came up short against McGehee, falling 21-5.

Dumas' loss dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Monticello, their win bumped their record up to 7-9.

Everything went Monticello's way against Dumas in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as Monticello made off with a 17-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Billies since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
