Basketball Recap: Santa Rosa Comes Up Short

Santa Rosa lost against Tucumcari back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Santa Rosa Lions lost 52-31 to the Tucumcari Rattlers. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Tucumcari had a senior duo take command as Caylee Benavidez dropped a double-double with 25 points and ten rebounds and July Lafferty dropped a double-double with 11 boards and ten steals. Lafferty is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Cambree Benavidez, who posted nine points along with six boards and three steals.

Santa Rosa's defeat dropped their record down to 9-14. As for Tucumcari, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Lions duke it out with the Panthers at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Tucumcari, they will venture away from home to square off against Raton at 5:30 p.m. on February 20th.
