The Hayden Lobos are taking a road trip to face off against the Mogollon Mustangs at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Wednesday, Hayden got the win against Valley Lutheran by a conclusive 18-1. The result was nothing new for the Lobos, who have now won 11 games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Meanwhile, Mogollon earned a 13-8 win over Williams on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.
Hadley Porter and Chancy Worsley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Porter struck out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Worsley pitched 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. At the plate, Porter went 2-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Worsley scored three runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Cort Porter was incredible, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Quinn Tenney, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Mogollon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in seven consecutive matches.
Hayden's victory was their 23rd straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Mogollon, their record is now 15-3.
Hayden came out on top in a nail-biter against Mogollon in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 8-7. Will the Lobos repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
