Softball Recap: Southwest Onslow Takes a Loss

Southwest Onslow had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 6-12 to make it four. They lost 20-4 to the Swansboro Pirates. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Stallions of the 8-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.

Grace Randolph was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

As for Swansboro, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games.

On Swansboro's side, Addison McMillan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. McMillan has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with four runs. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Payton Jensen was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Madilyn Lemke, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs.

Coming up, Southwest Onslow will challenge White Oak at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Stallions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season. As for Swansboro, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Topsail at 6:30 p.m.
