Softball Recap: Memorial Takes Down Heights in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Memorial had no problem doing just that on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Heights Bulldogs a 10-0 shutout. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Elise Adams was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

In other batting news, Isabella Borrego was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Addie Beckcom, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Memorial was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Heights only posted a batting average of .238.

Memorial pushed their record up to 21-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Heights, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-8.

Memorial will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bulldogs: the pair will be back at it again later today.
