Softball Game Preview: Lubbock-Cooper Pirates vs. Memorial Mavericks

For the second straight game, Lubbock-Cooper will face off against Memorial. The Pirates will welcome the Mavericks at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Lubbock-Cooper is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.8 runs per game this season.

Lubbock-Cooper is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They put the hurt on Memorial with a sharp 11-1 win. Considering the Pirates have won 20 matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Brooklyn Ray spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on eight hits and racked up 14 Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, Addison Luna was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was McKanna Garcia, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Lubbock-Cooper kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in ten consecutive contests.

Lubbock-Cooper's victory was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 25-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Memorial, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-20 record this season.
