Basketball Game Preview: Crownpoint Eagles vs. Navajo Prep Eagles

Crownpoint is 2-8 against Navajo Prep since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. We've got a battle between Eagles coming up. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Crownpoint can't be too worried about heading out to take on Navajo Prep: they just beat Newcomb at home, who had been dominant on their own court up to that point. Crownpoint had just enough and edged Newcomb out 45-43. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since December 7, 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Crownpoint to victory, but perhaps none more so than Courtney Craig, who posted 11 points in addition to eight boards and six blocks. Craig has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Holly Jiron was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Meanwhile, Navajo Prep came tearing into Tuesday's contest with 13 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.8 points), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single point of losing the streak, but they secured a 51-50 W against the Bears. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Bears are ranked 65th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Navajo Prep pushed their record up to 19-5 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.7 points over those games. As for Crownpoint, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-12 record this season.

Crownpoint suffered a grim 55-35 defeat to Navajo Prep in their previous matchup back in January. Can Crownpoint avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
