Basketball Recap: Hubbard Takes a Loss

Hubbard was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 50-45 heartbreaker at the hands of the Wortham Bulldogs. The Jaguars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Hubbard lost, don't look at Anthony Weverka. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 21 points and 18 boards. That was a full 46.7% of Hubbard's points, marking the ninth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Hunter Rodriguez, who scored nine points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Hubbard smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Hubbard's loss dropped their record down to 2-19. As for Wortham, their record is now 9-7.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Italy the next time they take the court. Wortham will host Italy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Hubbard will head out to face them at 7:45 p.m. on January 24th.
