League recap: Wayne tops Stratford to extend winning streak

A District 5 recap Oct. 9, 2012

Wayne extended the longest winning streak in A District 5 this week by beating Stratford, 55-0. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.

Wayne took down the Bulldogs 55-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Wynnewood's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jace Brown threw for 185 and three touchdowns and Levi Phillips had 90 yards receiving. On the ground Trey Knowles chipped in 55 yards. Pete Carter helped Wynnewood's passing attack out by catching two balls for 72 yards.

The Savages' Brown and Carter have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Brown has thrown for 726 yards this season, while Carter, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has nine catches for 295 yards. Wewoka's derrick jacene leads the league in rushing yards with 852.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Wynnewood takes on Caddo. Brad O'Steen's team is currently in first, while the Bruins are in sixth.

Brandon Sharp's team led A District 5 in scoring this week after putting up 55 points on Stratford.
