League recap: Farmersville tops Strathmore to extend winning streak

Farmersville extended the longest winning streak in East Sierra this week by beating Strathmore, 47-35. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Aztecs.

Farmersville led the league in scoring this week after putting up 47 points on the Spartans. Sam Metcalf threw for 372 yards and 5 touchdowns and caught 1 pass for 10 yards in the win.

David Lewis' team's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Anthony Azevedo contributed 53 yards. Jose Solis helped Farmersville's passing attack out by catching 8 balls for 145 yards.

He went 20-31 with 0 interceptions.

Metcalf put up the best numbers through the air as the Aztecs bested Strathmore. Metcalf's favorite target this week was Joseph DeLaCruz, who caught 8 passes for 190 yards.

Farmersville's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Aztecs feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Metcalf has thrown for 3,637 yards and 54 touchdowns this season, while DeLaCruz has 67 catches for 1,276 yards.

So far this year, he has garnered 44 catches for 914 yards.

In 142 carries Manuel Cruz has accumulated 913 yard this year.

Farmersville made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,015 from 9,200. The improvement was largely due to a 47-35 victory over jeromy Blackwell's team last week.
