Baseball Recap: Hamilton Southeastern's Losing Streak Snapped at Five Games

Hamilton Southeastern can bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 win over the Lapel Bulldogs. That's more bragging rights for the Royals, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Michael Hoog made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Hamilton Southeastern is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-9 otherwise. Hoog was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Hamilton Southeastern got a great performance from Josh Lesniewksi as he struck out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Those six strikeouts gave Lesniewksi a new career-high.

Hoog wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cy Cole, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI Cole has posted over his last eight contests. Isaiah Hamilton also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

The victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 5-10. As for Lapel, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 10-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hamilton Southeastern will challenge Lawrence Central at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Royals are facing the Bears at the right time seeing as the Bears are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Lapel, they will take on Shenandoah at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
