Softball Recap: Doane Academy Comes Up Short

Medford Tech hit Doane Academy with a four-run first inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. Doane Academy fell just short of Medford Tech by a score of 7-5. Doane Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Medford Tech apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.

Raegan Portadin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Camryn Derhofer made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs. Marissa Bhuiyah was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run.

Doane Academy's loss dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Medford Tech, their win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-0.

The future could be bright for both Doane Academy and Medford Tech: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Doane Academy will look to extend Willingboro's seven-game losing streak when they meet at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Medford Tech will try to hand STEMCivics their eighth-straight defeat when the two meet at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
