Football Recap: Murrieta Mesa Sets Scoring Season-High Against Great Oak

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Murrieta Mesa). Everything went their way against the Great Oak Wolfpack on Friday as they made off with a 42-21 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Rams have posted against the Wolfpack since October 5, 2018.

Nathan Cruz went supernova, rushing for 155 yards and one TD while picking up 9.1 yards per carry. His longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Murrieta Mesa was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 308 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Murrieta Mesa's defense stepped up as well, laying out Trent Lux nine times. It was truly a group effort as Noah Jenkins, Brett Rawls, and Jacob Avila picked up two apiece. Thanks to that big game, Jenkins is now up to 7.5 sacks on the season. Another thorn in Great Oak's side was Chris Flores, who picked up a sack and made nine total tackles in addition to snagging an interception.

Great Oak's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lux, who threw for 311 yards and three touchdowns while completing 77.4% of his passes, and also rushed for 49 yards. Lux has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played. Ryder Parks was in the mix as well, providing Great Oak with two scores.

Murrieta Mesa now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Great Oak, their record is now an identical 4-3.
