Recap: Calvert Cavaliers vs. McDonough Rams
The Calvert Cavaliers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their sixth straight loss. They took a serious blow against McDonough, falling 73-25. Calvert was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-13.
Mekhai Johnson was his usual excellent self, scoring 16 points along with three steals for McDonough. Isaiah Belfield was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Calvert bumped their record down to 1-6 with that loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for McDonough, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 5-1.
Calvert will finish 2023 at home by hosting Ocracoke at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Ocracoke knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine games -- so hopefully Calvert likes a good challenge. As for McDonough, they will head out on the road to face off against Alexandria City at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Alexandria City presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than McDonough in their respective states (Alexandria City is ranked 27th in Virginia, while McDonough is ranked 99th in Maryland).
