Recap: Northwestern Wildcats vs. Mercyhurst Prep Lakers
This season hasn't been kind to the Northwestern Wildcats, who are still winless after their 14th match. They took a serious blow against Mercyhurst Prep on Friday, falling 63-23. While losing is never fun, Northwestern can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 716th, while Mercyhurst Prep is ranked 323rd).
Mercyhurst Prep's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Maddox Brzuz, who scored eight points along with five assists and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Shaun McCausland, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
Northwestern's loss was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-14. As for Mercyhurst Prep, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northwestern will square off against North East at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mercyhurst Prep's road trip will continue as they head out to face Seneca at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th. Seneca is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
