Peyton has gone a perfect 3-0 against Burlington recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Panthers will look to defend their home field against the Cougars at 11:00 a.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Saturday.
Burlington will be up against a hot Peyton team: the squad just extended their winning streak to five. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over Kiowa on Monday. Considering the Panthers have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Bryce Love, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Brayden Nonaka, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Peyton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They are 7-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Burlington made easy work of Stratton on Thursday and carried off a 12-5 victory. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won six in a row.
Darian McDonough and Lenny Ramirez did most of the damage at the plate: McDonough went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles, while Ramirez got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave McDonough a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Daxton Skarphol, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.
Peyton's victory bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Burlington, their win bumped their record up to 4-9.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Peyton hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Burlington struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Peyton beat Burlington 8-3 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
