The Imperial Tigers will take on the Westview Wolverines in a tournament on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Imperial 3.2, Westview 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Tuesday, Imperial needed a bit of extra time to put away Southwest EC. They had just enough and edged out the Eagles 2-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Madeleine Magdaleno spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Raegan Ray was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Westview waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They walked away with a 5-2 win over the Bulldogs.
Westview also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Kaya Rodriguez gave up only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Abby Peake, who fired off two home runs while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kiana Rodriguez, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.
Westview lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Westview's victory bumped their record up to 11-4-1. As for Imperial, their win bumped their record up to 11-5.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Imperial has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. However, it's not like Westview struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
