Volleyball Recap: Katy Taylor Takes a Loss

Katy Taylor came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Tompkins Falcons, falling 3-0. The Mustangs have struggled against the Falcons recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 25-16, 25-16.

Eva Kate Simoncic paced Katy Taylor's offense, picking up seven kills. Simoncic got some help from Lucy Mihalick and her 17 assists. Finally, Madison Barrera kept Katy Taylor's defense grounded, leading the team with three blocks.

Tompkins can attribute much of their success to Lainey Monroe, who had 16 digs and three assists.

Katy Taylor's loss dropped their record down to 16-16. As for Tompkins, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 17 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-5 record this season.

Katy Taylor and Tompkins should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Mustangs (ranked 193rd) will meet Mayde Creek (ranked 411th) at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Tompkins will face off against Jordan at 5:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (11 vs. 78).
