Banning is 2-8 against San Pedro since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Pilots will be playing at home against the Pirates at 3:15 p.m. Banning is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
Banning is returning to their home field after beating Narbonne on theirs, despite the fact Narbonne has dominated at home this season. The Pilots were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over the Gauchos on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pilots.
Ariel Gonzalez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gonzalez was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kali Sue, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Alina Argueta, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and two doubles.
Banning always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They are 6-2 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, San Pedro entered their tilt with Carson on Thursday with ten consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 11. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Colts.
Caroline Baker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, San Pedro's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Breya Ventura, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
San Pedro's win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for Banning, their win bumped their record up to 9-14.
Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Banning has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .493. However, it's not like San Pedro struggles in that department as they've averaged .456. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Banning couldn't quite get it done against San Pedro in their previous meeting back in April as they fell 8-3. Will the Pilots have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
