Basketball Game Preview: Hampton Hornets vs. Eagle's Landing Eagles

Hampton is 1-8 against Eagle's Landing since January of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The two teams, after both having extra time off, will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:00 p.m. Hampton has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, Hampton turned things around against Mae Jemison last Tuesday. They came out on top against the Jaguars by a score of 48-40.

It was another big night for Trinity Grant, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and 16 boards. Grant is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Surayyah Aleem, who posted 16 points.

Meanwhile, Eagle's Landing strolled past McDonough with points to spare two weeks ago, taking the game 46-29.

Eagle's Landing's win came from a few key players that Hampton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Tia Gaines, who put up 15 points along with six boards and six steals. Player #15 also deserves some recognition as she posted her first blocks of the season.

Hampton's record now sits at 8-6. As for Eagle's Landing, their record is now 2-7.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Hampton has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 32.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Eagle's Landing struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 30.3 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Hampton came up short against Eagle's Landing in their previous matchup back in January of 2025, falling 53-48. Can the Hornets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
