Baseball Game Preview: Deckerville Eagles vs. Bad Axe Hatchets

The Deckerville Eagles are taking a road trip to face off against the Bad Axe Hatchets at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Deckerville has three straight wins, Bad Axe has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Deckerville came out on top against Mayville on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run second inning. The Eagles walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Wildcats.

Ashton Wedge spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Ian Flanagan was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Ashton Peruski was another key player, getting on base in both of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Bad Axe's offense. They came up short against Laker on Thursday, falling 11-0. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Deckerville's win bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Bad Axe, their loss dropped their record down to 4-14.

Deckerville might still be hurting after the 13-1 defeat they got from Bad Axe when the teams last played back in April of 2017. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
