Baseball Recap: St. Pius X Drops Season-High Score on Highland

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Pius X). They were the clear victors by a 17-5 margin over the Highland Hornets on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Sartans considering their one-run performance the contest before.

Darryk Olivares was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaiden Swanson, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-2.

St. Pius X lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The win got St. Pius X back to even at 11-11. As for Highland, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-12-1 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Pius X will head out to square off against Belen at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Highland, they will venture away from home to face off against Rio Grande at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Hornets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Ravens have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season.
