Softball Game Preview: Rincon/University Rangers vs. Marana Tigers

Rincon/University is 1-9 against Marana since March of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Rincon/University will be playing at home against Marana at 3:45 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Rincon/University is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They lost 18-2 to Cibola.

Sophia Castillo made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run. Erika Prieto also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Marana came up short against Mountain View on Monday and fell 7-2. The loss continues a trend for the Tigers in their meetings with the Mountain Lions: they've now lost four in a row.

Marana saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bella Corona, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Marana's defeat dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Rincon/University, their loss dropped their record down to 4-10.

Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Rincon/University hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .344. However, it's not like Marana struggles in that department as they've averaged .403. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Rincon/University suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Marana in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Rincon/University avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
