Basketball Recap: Rustburg Takes a Loss

Rustburg was the 43-22 winner over Heritage when they last played one another back in February, but their luck changed this time around. The Red Devils fell 37-31 to the Pioneers on Tuesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

When it comes to explaining why Rustburg lost, don't look at Samiyah Jackson. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 16 points and 13 boards. That was a full 51.6% of the Red Devils' points, marking the fifth time in a row Jackson has posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophie Knowles, who put up two points and three steals.

Leading Heritage to victory were Tailor Coles and DaNyzah Alexander. Coles dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds, while Alexander dropped a double-double with ten points and 11 boards. Coles has been hot, having posted nine or more rebounds the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was HNiyah Phillips, who scored six points.

Rustburg's loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Heritage, their record is now 3-1.

Rustburg didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 46-24 defeat against Liberty on the 19th. As for Heritage, they have also already played their next game, a 55-27 win against Brookville on the 18th.
