Basketball Recap: The Vanguard School Sets Scoring Season-High Against Florence

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask The Vanguard School). They blew past the Florence Huskies 68-21 on Saturday. The Coursers haven't had any issues with the Huskies recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

The Vanguard School's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordyn Christensen, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and ten rebounds. The Vanguard School is 2-1 when Christensen posts ten or more boards, but 3-7 otherwise. Matilde Todeschini also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

The Vanguard School was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.

Several Huskies players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Stefanie Martinez, who posted five points and five rebounds. What's more, Martinez also posted a 50% shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Claire Bosley, who earned four points and seven boards.

The Vanguard School's victory bumped their record up to 5-8. As for Florence, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-12.

Looking ahead, The Vanguard School will be playing at home against Colorado Springs Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Colorado Springs Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully The Vanguard School likes a good challenge. As for Florence, they will venture away from home to face off against Salida at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Salida will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Florence surely won't give up without a fight.
