Basketball Game Preview: Marlin Bulldogs vs. Riesel Indians

The Marlin Bulldogs will square off against the Riesel Indians at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Marlin is returning home triumphant after the team finally put their road woes behind them against Manor New Tech on Saturday. Marlin walked away with a 50-40 win over Manor New Tech. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 458th, while Manor New Tech are ranked 1179th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Marlin to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jordan Womack, who posted 20 points and five assists. Those five assists gave Womack a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aarik Smith-Shelley, who earned 13 points and five blocks.

Meanwhile, Riesel posted their closest victory since December 7, 2023 last Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Bruceville-Eddy, sneaking past 41-38.

Riesel's win bumped their record up to 5-9. As for Marlin, their victory bumped their record up to 8-4.

Everything came up roses for Marlin against Riesel when the teams last played back in February, as the squad secured a 75-30 win. Does Marlin have another victory up their sleeve, or will Riesel turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
