Basketball Recap: North Marion Extends Winning Streak to Four

North Marion waltzed into their game on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top against the Vanguard Knights by a score of 42-35. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 51-39 back in December of 2024.

North Marion was led to victory by KANARA GORDON and AIYANNIA BARNES. GORDON posted 12 points and eight rebounds, while BARNES put up 13 points. Those 12 points gave GORDON a new career-high. JAMEYA BROWN was another key player, putting up eight points.

North Marion smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in six consecutive matches.

Several Knights players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sylnya Roberson, who had three points in addition to eight boards and seven blocks. Roberson is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last eight games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of I'Jaia Bethea, who earned 15 points.

North Marion has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 11-9 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.8 points per game. As for Vanguard, they now have a losing record at 6-7.

North Marion wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 58-13 defeat against West Port on the 15th. Vanguard has also already played their next match, a 52-5 victory against Lake Weir on the 15th.
