Softball Preview: Garfield G-Men vs. Champion Golden Flashes
Garfield is 0-8 against Champion since May of 2017 but things could change on Monday. The G-Men will be playing at home against the Golden Flashes at 5:00 p.m.
Last Monday, Garfield didn't have quite enough to beat LaBrae and fell 8-6.
Meanwhile, Champion strolled into their game on Wednesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They never let Brookfield get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. Considering the Golden Flashes have won five matchups by more than eight runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Jonna Strock made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Strock was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.
In other batting news, Adalyn McIntosh was incredible, firing off two home runs, seven RBI, and one double while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Taylor Rouan, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.
Champion always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.
Champion pushed their record up to 6-0 with the win, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games. As for Garfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
Garfield might still be hurting after the 17-0 loss they got from Champion in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the G-Men avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
