Football Recap: Gladewater Extends Winning Streak to Eight + How To Watch

It's playoff time, and Gladewater had no trouble coming through when it counted. They took their matchup on Friday with ease, bagging a 56-22 win over the Mount Vernon Tigers. The victory was familiar territory for the Bears, who have now won eight contests in a row.

Achilles Hess was the offensive standout of the game as he rushed for 52 yards and one TD, and also threw for 49 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Carsin Cooper, who rushed for 71 yards and one score.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Gladewater was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 361 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Gladewater didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Anthony Sanchez.

When it comes to explaining why Mount Vernon lost, don't look at Dawson Witherspoon. Despite the final result, he rushed for 188 yards and one touchdown. Cade George was another key player, having thrown for 251 yards and two touchdowns.

Gladewater's win bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Mount Vernon, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season.

Gladewater will square off against Grandview at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bears will be up against the Zebras' rather soft defense (which has allowed 28.45 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. Mount Vernon does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
