Volleyball Recap: Shelton Extends Winning Streak to Five

Shelton waltzed into their game on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came within a single set of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Xavier Falcons. The Gaels have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Falcons, too.

The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was Shelton who won the one that mattered. The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 20-25, 25-21, 22-25, 15-9.

Leading Shelton to victory were Cooper Bacca and Matthew Reilly. Bacca had 15 digs and three assists, while Reilly hit 62.5% for six kills and 42 assists and 11 digs. Those 11 digs gave Reilly a new career-high. Preston Hyner also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Shelton pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Xavier, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Shelton will face off against Trumbull at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Xavier, they will head out to challenge Newington at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
