Baseball Recap: Wayne County Gets the Win

Wayne County made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Wayne County Wildcats' pitcher stepped up to hand the Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central Tigers a 10-0 shutout on Tuesday. Considering the Wildcats' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Brady Stooksberry made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Peyton Griggs, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. Weston Todd also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Wayne County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Wayne County's victory bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-2 record.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Wayne County Wildcats face off against Hardin County Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central, they will face off against Clarksburg at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Clarksburg has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.43 runs per game on average), something Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central will no doubt try to take advantage of.
