Conneaut Area hasn't had much luck against Slippery Rock recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. Conneaut Area will square off against Slippery Rock at 4:00 p.m.
Conneaut Area came into this matchup off a tough ten-run loss last Monday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Greenville by a score of 4-2 on Thursday. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Ashton Headley made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Slippery Rock made sure to put some runs up on the board against Franklin on Monday. Slippery Rock put the hurt on Franklin with a sharp 12-4 victory. The win continues a trend for the Rockets in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won three in a row.
Jacob Kunsman made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave him a new career-low. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other pitching news, Austan Runtas looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits.
Back at the plate, Connor Zorn was a standout: he scored two runs while going 1-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Austin Kura, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Conneaut Area now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Slippery Rock, their record now sits at 2-0.
Everything went Conneaut Area's way against Slippery Rock in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Conneaut Area made off with an 11-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Conneaut Area since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
