Basketball Recap: Sissonville Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Sissonville lost to Point Pleasant back in March of 2021, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Sissonville Indians enjoyed a cozy 52-35 win over the Point Pleasant Big Blacks. Given the Indians' advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 71st, while the Big Blacks are ranked 514th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Point Pleasant still got an impressive performance from Grant Barton, who posted 12 points and five assists. That's the most assists Barton has posted since back in February of 2024.

Sissonville's victory bumped their record up to 3-10. As for Point Pleasant, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.

Sissonville didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 72-53 defeat against Fairmont Senior on the 1st. As for Point Pleasant, they are taking a road trip to take on Wayne at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wayne knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine contests -- so hopefully Point Pleasant likes a good challenge.
