Basketball Recap: Karsyn Messina's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Ballston Spa over Columbia

Ballston Spa was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 65-47 bruising from the Columbia Blue Devils. If the Scotties were looking for revenge after losing 63-46 to them when the teams met back in February of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Ballston Spa lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Karsyn Messina, who went 6-for-12 on her way to 17 points. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Jessica Bowens, who posted 14 points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Ballston Spa smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Ballston Spa's record now sits at 10-9. As for Columbia, their win bumped their record up to 17-3.

Looking ahead, Ballston Spa will challenge Saratoga Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Columbia does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
