Football Recap: Gateway Charter's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Wednesday

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Gateway Charter couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They received a blow on Wednesday as they fell 19-0 to the Oxbridge Academy ThunderWolves. The match marked the first time this season in which the Griffins were not able to get on the board.

Taylor Brock threw for 89 yards on 13 of 25 attempts. Ashanti Taylor was her top target, picking up 64 receiving yards.

Liani Gil was the offensive standout of the game as she threw for 201 yards and three touchdowns while completing 71.4% of her passes. What's more, she racked up 15 rushing yards, the most she's had since back in February.

With the defeat, Gateway Charter broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-2. As for Oxbridge Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season.

Gateway Charter will take on Chaminade-Madonna at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Lions' defense has only allowed 7.8 points per game this season, so the Griffins' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Oxbridge Academy, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 41-6 loss against Somerset Academy - Canyons on the 17th.
