Basketball Recap: Progreso's Win Ends Three-Game Losing Streak at Home

Progreso won the last time they faced IDEA Weslaco Pike and things went their way on Friday too. The Progreso Red Ants walked away with a 54-47 win over the IDEA Weslaco Pike Mavericks. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Red Ants.

Progreso had a senior duo take command as Julio Resendez dropped a double-double on 14 points and 20 boards and Mathew Zuniga went 6 for 9 en route to 15 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. Resendez is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last 15 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hugo Gamboa, who posted eight points.

Several Mavericks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Louie Gutierrez, who earned eight points along with five assists and four steals. Another player making a difference was Aaron Leos, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 10 points and seven rebounds.

Progreso's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 14-18. As for IDEA Weslaco Pike, they dropped their record down to 5-16 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Progreso has already played their next game (against IDEA Frontier College Prep), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. IDEA Weslaco Pike will host Lyford at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lyford will roll in looking for their 14th straight win, something IDEA Weslaco Pike surely won't give up without a fight.
