Basketball Recap: Valley Center Hornets vs. Andover Central Jaguars

The Valley Center Hornets struggled with offensive rebounds on Tuesday (the Andover Central Jaguars had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. The game between Valley Center and the Jaguars wasn't particularly close, with the Hornets falling 66-50. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Valley Center in their matchups with the Jaguars: they've now lost four in a row.

Valley Center's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bryson Saner, who scored 14 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Saner has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Saner, who scored 14 points.

Andover Central got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jace Jefferson out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. It was the first time this season that Jefferson pulled down eight or more rebounds. Jayden Brown was another key contributor, scoring 20 points.

Valley Center has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season. As for Andover Central, the win got them back to even at 6-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Valley Center will play host again and welcome the Trojans, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Andover knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matchups -- so hopefully the Hornets like a good challenge. As for Andover Central, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Lions at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st. Goddard is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
