Baseball Recap: Massac County Takes a Loss

Massac County fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Murphysboro on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Red Devils by a score of 3-2. The Patriots have struggled against the Red Devils recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Zach Maurer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Max Elliott made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Massac County's defeat dropped their record down to 13-4. As for Murphysboro, the win snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 10-12 record.

Looking ahead, Massac County will face off against Anna-Jonesboro at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Murphysboro, they have already played their next matchup, a 7-6 loss against Pinckneyville on the 7th.
