Basketball Recap: Ethan Wisler and Avery Hicks Secure Win for Wakefield

Wakefield won the last time they faced Wake Forest and things went their way on Friday too. The Wakefield Wolverines came out on top against the Wake Forest Cougars by a score of 58-50. The score was all tied up 21-21 at the break, but the Wolverines were the better team in the second half.

Leading Wakefield to victory were Avery Hicks and Ethan Wisler. Hicks almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds, while Wisler posted 19 points. Hicks is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Bishop Dudley, who earned five points and three steals.

Despite the defeat, Wake Forest had strong showings from Scott Jones, who went 7 for 11 to rack up 22 points, and Palmer Chase, who had nine points and six boards. What's more, Jones also posted a 57% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's posted since back in November of 2024.

Wakefield's win bumped their record up to 10-12. As for Wake Forest, their loss was their ninth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-16.

Wakefield and Wake Forest could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Wakefield will face off against Knightdale at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday down 156 places (206 vs. 50). Wakefield is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak. Similarly, Wake Forest (ranked 366th) will meet Millbrook (ranked 80th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wakefield has given up an average of 60.1 points per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week.
