Basketball Recap: Mary M. Knight Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Mary M. Knight, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They walked away with a 45-36 win over the Willapa Valley Vikings on Tuesday. This was a revenge game for the Owls: when they faced off against the Vikings back in December of 2024, they had to take a 43-35 loss.

Willapa Valley lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Rilyn Channell, who posted nine points and eight rebounds. Channell has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Lauren Matlock was another key player, putting up five points in addition to six steals and five assists.

Mary M. Knight's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 10-5. As for Willapa Valley, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-7 record.

Mary M. Knight will head out to take on Ocosta at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Ocosta has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Willapa Valley has already played their next match (against Pe Ell), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
