Basketball Recap: James Irwin Comes Up Short

James Irwin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They took a 60-44 bruising from the Florence Huskies. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Huskies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 49-20 back in January.

Despite the loss, James Irwin saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jaiden Davis posted 16 points and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Davis has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jonathan Kimble, who scored 11 points and eight boards.

Florence's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Noah Howard led the charge by putting up 24 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaret Lozano, who almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine boards.

James Irwin's defeat dropped their record down to 2-19. As for Florence, their victory bumped their record up to 9-13.

James Irwin has already played their next contest, a 67-39 loss against Rye on the 1st. As for Florence, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 66-44 win against La Junta on the 1st.
