Recap: Kirbyville Wildcats vs. Buna Cougars
After losing to the Buna Cougars the last time they met, the Kirbyville Wildcats decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Kirbyville sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 37-34 win over Buna on Tuesday. The victory was all the more spectacular given Kirbyville's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 920th, while Buna is ranked 428th).
When it comes to explaining why Buna lost, one person who can't be blamed is Reese Sherman. Despite the final result, she scored eight points along with eight steals and seven rebounds.
Kirbyville is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-7 record this season. As for Buna, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-7.
Kirbyville will be playing in front of their home fans against Anahuac at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Buna will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Hardin at 1:30 p.m. on January 5th.
