Softball Recap: Thomas Stone Takes a Loss

Thomas Stone extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 26 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-8 in the process. They lost 15-1 to the La Plata Warriors. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cougars of the 15-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for La Plata, their record is now 8-5. Considering they have won seven matches by more than eight runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

For La Plata's part, Sophie Payne was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Payne has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, La Plata got a big performance out of Olivia Hutchins, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that Hutchins has snagged this season. Payton Buckler was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Thomas Stone will take on rival St. Charles on Monday. Meanwhile, La Plata is set to face off against their familiar foe Northern at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
