Softball Recap: Five Straight Road Victories for Stone Memorial

Stone Memorial waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the York Institute Dragons a 17-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won five contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Camdyn Holbrook and Ashely Whittenburg did most of the damage at the plate: Holbrook scored three runs while going 3-for-3, while Whittenburg scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases Whittenburg has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Breanna Looper, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Stone Memorial was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .538. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

Stone Memorial pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.6 runs over those games. As for York Institute, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Coming up, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Stone Memorial Panthers take on Rockwood Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for York Institute, they will challenge Cumberland County at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Cumberland County has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.75 runs per game on average), something York Institute will no doubt try to take advantage of.
