Preview: Garber Wolverines vs. Velma-Alma Comets
Garber has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Velma-Alma Comets at TBD on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Garber walked away with it. They took down Shattuck 48-32 on Friday.
Carson Bishop was on fire: he rushed for 304 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.2 yards per carry. Bishop's longest rush was for an incredible 94 yards. Domingo Ramirez was in the mix as well, providing Garber with three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Velma-Alma faced Covington-Douglas in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Velma-Alma snuck past Covington-Douglas with a 58-52 victory on Friday. The win was nothing new for Velma-Alma as they're now sitting on six straight.
Velma-Alma found their leader in underclassman Slade Strickland, who rushed for 119 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 232 yards and four touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes. Kaiden Lyle also helped out as he racked up 102 rushing yards.
Garber now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Velma-Alma, they have yet to lose a matchup at home this season, leaving them with a 10-1 record.
