Baseball Game Preview: Antelope Titans vs. Cordova Lancers

For the second straight game, Antelope will face off against Cordova. The Titans will head out to face off against the Lancers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Antelope is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.

Antelope barely beat Cordova the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Titans' pitcher stepped up to hand the Lancers a 6-0 shutout on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.

Tristan Hofferber made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.

In other batting news, Gabe Chacon was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2. He is becoming a predictor of Antelope's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-6 when he doesn't). Kaden Coates also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

The victory made it two in a row for Antelope and bumps their season record up to 8-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Cordova, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6-1.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Antelope has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cordova struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
