The Mentor Cardinals will head out to face off against the North Rangers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Mentor is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.

Mentor can't be too worried about heading out to take on North: they just beat University School at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Cardinals walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Preppers on Friday.

Mentor got a great performance from Dom Luvison as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Luvison has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jake McCartney was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Brayden Bortnick, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

University School hit North with a four-run fifth inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Rangers came up short against the Preppers, falling 10-0. The Rangers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mentor's record is now 14-4. As for North, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10.

Mentor was able to grind out a solid win over North in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 7-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
