Basketball Recap: Lopez Comes Up Short on the Road Against Mcallen Memorial

Lopez kicked off their season on the road on Saturday and hit a couple of potholes. They were beaten by the McAllen Memorial Mustangs 79-20. The Lobos have struggled against the Mustangs recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead McAllen Memorial to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ava Thomas, who went 8-for-18 on her way to 23 points in addition to seven steals and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Mj Banjao, who shot 47% from the field en route to 20 points and five assists.

Lopez wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 49-41 defeat against Rio Hondo on the 15th. As for McAllen Memorial, they have also already played their next matchup, a 51-49 win against Edinburg on the 11th.
